Our Vision

Ruakura Superhub is a project of national significance to re-imagine how we grow, prosper and sustain for generations to come.

Located at the nexus of the golden triangle between Auckland and Tauranga, the Superhub is anchored by an inland port and includes logistics, industrial, commercial, retail, green space, and residential zones.

With a direct connection to the four-lane Waikato Expressway and the inland port’s location alongside the East Coast Main Trunk rail line, easy accessibility and congestion-free travel is assured.

More than 4,500 homes are planned at Ruakura Superhub including a mix of medium and high-density housing and recreational options perfect for families.

Environmental sustainability is designed into the Superhub through positive decarbonisation impacts, solar energy use, and ecological protections for local habitat.

Superhub Master Plan

Ruakura is being purpose built to create New Zealand’s largest integrated commercial hub. Central to the development is a 30ha inland port operated in a joint venture with Port of Tauranga Ltd, surrounded by a 263ha industrial and logistics park with a mix of uses to help businesses thrive.

Why Ruakura?

Ruakura will be New Zealand’s largest superhub, offering genuine scale. It provides sustainable lower-cost-to-serve access to New Zealand’s population, with over half living within two hours’ drive. Recognised as a 'project of National Significance’, by the New Zealand Government, Ruakura Superhub benefits from existing consenting for logistics and industrial use, priority status within regional planning frameworks and funding support from the Government and Hamilton City Council.

As an iwi (tribal) owned business, profits are invested in the communal well-being of the 90,000+ members of Waikato-Tainui. Compelling environmental benefits from moving freight from road to rail, solar generation on-site and ecosystem protection measures (including a 11.7ha wetland and 1.5 million native plants in Stage 1) contribute to a strong sustainability proposition.

Ruakura is carefully master planned for smart, market leading businesses seeking supply chain savings, resilience and sustainability. At 610ha, Ruakura has the space to let you grow and a wide range of lot sizes to meet all business requirements.

BENEFITS

Location

As the ‘Golden Triangle’ cities of Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga grow and become mutually dependent, Ruakura plugs into the major arteries between these growing cities.

Scale

At 610 hectares in total, Ruakura Superhub offers some of New Zealand’s largest flat sites and the ability for us to scale to the emerging class of super distribution centres demanded by global supply chains.

Supply Chain Cost

Intensive modelling with a range of test case importers and exporters demonstrates achievable lower overall supply chain costs with ease of use for the movement of high-volume cargoes for off-rail shippers and the ability to avoid congestion through Auckland city and at the ports. TGH has an expert supply chain consultant available to help you model these benefits.

Sustainability

Through the use of rail, the inland port service offers shippers a more environmentally acceptable transport solution, an element that will continue to gain importance in the longer-term.  Please see the sustainability section here.

Social - Employment

Ruakura Superhub is forecast to create a significant new employment hub in Hamilton. At an estimated density of 20-40 employees per hectare, economic consultancy Castalia estimates the precinct will generate 6,000-12,000 jobs.
