The 30ha Ruakura Inland Port is currently under construction and will be operated by Port of Tauranga Ltd.
Its location at the nexus of the golden triangle of Tauranga, Auckland and Hamilton, and alongside both the East Coast Main Trunk and the new Waikato Expressway, offers significant supply chain efficiencies to both importers and exporters.
Stage one of the port is a 17ha development which includes construction of two 800m rail sidings to cater for what will be 80-plus cargo train movements each week. Initially the port will have a capacity of 200,000 TEU (shipping containers) per year, increasing to 1 million TEU when the port is fully developed.
Ruakura Inland Port opened in August 2023.
